As a Christian, I wanted the name to mean something, represent something, and invoke thought. While brainstorming one late night, I thought up Attainable Joy. I repeated it a few times and then got up to show my husband. After repeating it a few times, he also agreed it was a good name. Before going to sleep, I checked to see of the domain was available, it was but not under .com but rather .co. I considered it a sign and went to sleep joyful and excited.

Am I always joyful? No. Do I smile most of the time? Mostly, if I know you. Are there moments when I have felt depressed? Yes. I wanted the name to remind me that Joy is Attainable in the Lord.

If there is a hope that I hold fast to, it is that I am a born-again child of God. He has called me and saved me. He is sanctifying me and growing me in Him. I have a hope that most of the world does not. I have a purpose; to serve God. I have Joy; I have security in Him.

I think of all the people walking around the world without hope or God in their lives, living to serve the god of self, seeking after empty ambition. Living for the day and then returning to their misery, never having true joy. I pray that they, one day, too, will find the Joy of the Lord and am reminded to be thankful that I have a hope, that I have Attainable Joy.

And I hope the name works as a reminder for you too. I want to leave you with a few verses to meditate on as you think about the joy of the Lord.

Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. 1

Thessalonians 5:16-18

This is the day that the Lord has made;

let us rejoice and be glad in it.

Psalm 118:24

When the cares of my heart are many,

your consolations cheer my soul.

Psalm 94:19

Though the fig tree should not blossom,

nor fruit be on the vines,

the produce of the olive fail

and the fields yield no food,

the flock be cut off from the fold

and there be no herd in the stalls,

yet I will rejoice in the Lord;

I will take joy in the God of my salvation.

Habakkuk 3:17-18

You make known to me the path of life;

in your presence there is fullness of joy;

at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.

Psalm 16:11

  1. Michael Archer says:

    It’s so true. So many people measure success and fulfillment by superficial standards such as happinesses, wealth, and reputation. However, those factors are usually contingent upon a set of circumstances that are always subject to change.

    What happens when things are hard at work or when we suffer loss -whether financially or relationally. In what or whom do we place our trust?

    In Christ, the Christian can know true joy, true peace and true love -not the least of which dependent on our circumstances, but rather on God who gave Himself to rescue us from the power and penalty of sin. The same God who created us and the same one who lovingly sustains us day by day.

    Sweet choice in name btw, you and your husband have great taste!

What'daya think?
