This song has always been a favorite since I first listened to it. The lyrics, although simple, carry great meaning.
It is very easy for us to get carried away with the mundane, but listening to this song reminds me that there is more for me. There is hope at the end of my days. I may not always be happy and content, but this song helps me refocus and remember that the things I am experiencing are temporary.
When I am feeling low and feel like I have no control, I remind myself of my savior. I remember that God has called and saved me and one day will call me to live with him in glory. And that is something I long await for. I await the day I no longer call this world home; I long for the day I get to see Jesus and have all my tears dried away. A day where all the suffering will be but a distant memory. I know this may sound a bit morbid, but it’s a fact for us Christians; we value what is to come more than what we are living through today, or at least we should.
I hope you like this song as much as I do. You can find the lyrics and video below. There are different versions and styles; I personally like the country-sounding ones.
This world is not my home I'm just passing through
my treasures are laid up somewhere beyond the blue
the angels beckon me from Heaven's open door
and I can't feel at home in this world anymore
O Lord you know I have no friend like you
if Heaven's not my home then Lord what will I do?
the angels beckon me from Heaven's open door
and I can't feel at home in this world anymore
They're all expecting me and that's one thing I know
my savior pardoned me and now I onward go
I know He'll take me through though I am weak and poor
and I can't feel at home in this world anymore
O Lord you know I have no friend like you
if Heaven's not my home then Lord what will I do?
the angels beckon me from Heaven's open door
and I can't feel at home in this world anymore
Just up in Glory Land we'll live eternally
the Saints on every hand are shouting victory
their song of sweetest praise drifts back from Heaven's shore
and I can't feel at home in this world anymore
O Lord you know I have no friend like you
if Heaven's not my home then Lord what will I do?
the angels beckon me from Heaven's open door
and I can't feel at home in this world anymore
