Contrary to what many believe, the church is not just a mere building, but rather it is composed of those who attend it. The church is the body of Christ, and as members of the body, we ought to love one another and continually pray for one another.
Now, there are, of course, many ways we can pray for the needs and desires of the saints all over the world. For example, we can pray that the persecuted saints in China would know and experience the joy of Christ even in the midst of their suffering. We can be praying that believers in the west, namely America, would be reminded that though we are in this world, we are not of it and ought never to embrace its values and aspirations. You can even pray that the brethren in your local congregation (especially those young in the faith) might be matured through the word. However, the Spirit might lead you to pray. Not only do we have an invaluable formula to model in John 17, but also a glimpse into the heart of our beloved Lord as He prays for us even now. Let’s be praying as the church and for the church!
"Lord, today we come to you in prayer asking that you continue to look after the church. May you continue to place strong and wise elders within the church for the betterment of his sheep. May we be given a spirit of Joy and willingness to help. A desire to be in the word, with the saints, seeking your truth. I pray that we may continue to pray for your body, not just today but regularly. May we form stronger bonds and get past the basic conversation, and really seek to know one another so we can pray and encourage one another. I pray for the churches abroad facing prosecution that we may never see in America. Please continue to give them the boldness to seek you, not fearing what may come. May we, too, have such boldness to share the Gospel even if it means potential death. May we remember that this world is not our home; we are simply passing through. I thank you, and pray these things in Jesus' name, Amen."
“And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.”
Matthew 16:18
“Now you are all the body of Christ, and each of you is a member of it.”
1 Corinthians 12:27
